F1 Race 3: China
SportPublished April 19, 2009 at 10:13 am No CommentsHeavy rain fell before the race meant that the race was started behind the safety car, which was bad news for Alonso how had gone for a short 1st spell to get him on the front row of the grid and he had to pit while the safety car was still out sending him to the back of the field.
The safety car came in and the race started for real at the start of the 9th lap. Lewis Hamilton put his Kers system to good use with a simple move on Kimi Raikkonen.
On lap 18 the BMW of Kubica went straight over the top of Trulli’s Toyota, Kubica was able to repace his front nose and continue in the race but the damage to the Toyota was considerably worse and Trulli was forced out of the race and a safety car was needed to clean up the debris.
Ferraris terrible form this season continued when Massa came to a stop on lap 20 behind the safety car.
The Red Bulls were quicker all race and just pulled away from the Brawn cars.
In the closing stages on the race it looked like Force India were going to pick up some points but under pressure from Lewis Hamilton (who had many offs today) Sutil went off into the barrier on lap 51, if he had managed to bring it home in the points it would have left Ferrari as the only team without points!
Officially Ferrari’s worst start to a season since 1981, if they don’t pick up a point next week it will be the worst start ever.
