F1 2009 Race 2: Malaysia

Jensen Button had an awful start while Nico Rosberg had a superb start, Jensen tried to stay around the outside of Rosberg on the 1st corner and ended up slipping back to 4th place behind Alonso.

Button and Barrichello in the Brawn GP both perform good overtaking moves on Alonso’s heavily fulled Renault. Alonso is doing a very good job of holding everyone up with only the Ferrari of Raikonnen able to match the acheivement of the Brawn boys in the 1st 10 laps of the race.

Cars start to make pitstops and it’s still not raining but that doesn’t stop Raikkonen in the Ferrari putting wet tyres on, Button pits after Raikkonen and puts more slick tyres on.

Raikkonen is lapping so slow any benefit he might gain from rain in the next few laps has gone.

Everyone comes in to change for wets as the rain starts on the back of the track, but Raikkonen is no where and on the radio Raikkonen confirms his tyres are destroyed .

Webber and Hamilton keep trading position but the Red Bull looks so much faster than the McLaren if he can keep it on the track i’m sure he will just pull away.

Glock in the Toyota is flying past everyone on Intermediate tyres and everyone is quickly changing from wets to Intermediate. Button pits to change and hands the lead to Glock, 3.3 seconds ahead of Button! 27 laps to go.

Button takes the lead as Glock pits to put on full wet tyres! Glock is certainly leading the way and the rain is really coming down now as lightening hits the grandstand and knocks out the tv coverage for a few seconds!

Button manages to get back to the pits as cars are going off the track everywhere.

Safety car deployed with 25 laps to go but if the weather stays like this i can’t see them restarting.

Bourdais says the track is undriveable and should be red flagged, almost instantly the red flag comes out and race is stopped.

Top 8 at red flag.

1 J Button
2 T Glock
3 N Heidfeld
4 J Trulli
5 R Barrichello
6 L Hamilton
7 N Rosberg
8 M Webber

Reduced points will be issued if the race doe not restart.

11:53am (BST) and the race is confirmed as a result with no chance of a restart. Half points awarded, wonder what the FIA will do to be able to get a Ferrari in to the points – Massa is 9th so they only need to disqualify 1 car i wonder what they can blame Hamilton for this time?

11:55 okay nothing is simple with the FIA the race order has changed as they decide to go back another lap to take the result at the end of lap 31

1. J Button
2. N Heidfeld
3. T. Glock
4. J. Trulli
5. R. Barrichello
6. M. Webber
7. L. Hamilton
8. N. Rosberg
