Random thoughtsPublished March 3, 2009 at 10:26 am No CommentsFollowing on from Milo’s Ramble about the attack in pakistan on the Sri Lankan cricket team, i won’t go into the detail as Milo has already said it all.
Details on the injuries sustained to the Sri Lankan cricket team are now being confirmed.
Kumar Sangakkara – Shrapnel cut to shoulder
Mahela Jayawardene – Cut to Ankle
Ajantha Mendis – Shrapnel would to back
Tharanga Paranavithana – Shrapnel wound to chest
Thilan Samaraweera – Shrapnel wound to leg
Coach Paul Farbrace – Shrapnel wound to arm
Some players were trapped inside the Gaddafi Stadium but have now been airlifted to safety.
A rocket aimed at the Sri lankan coach missed and due to the actions of the coach driver (putting his foot down and heading for the stadium) probably saved the lives of every player.
Former Notts and England cricketer Chris Broad (and father of Notts and England cricketer Stuart Broad) was on the coach behind the Sri Lankan team in his role as match official thankfully he was unhurt but the driver of his coach was killed by the gunmen.
Former England bowler Dominic Cork, who was working as a commentator for Pakistan TV, told Sky Sports News that although Broad was unhurt he was severely shcoked by the attack.
“He (Broad) said it was the most frightening experience of his life,” said Cork. “Their driver was shot and they had to ask a policeman to drive them to the stadium.”
